NAHB Senior Officers Bring a Housing Agenda to Capitol Hill

NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke and First Vice Chairman Jerry Konter recently conducted virtual and in-person meetings with congressional leaders to urge them to keep housing in the forefront of the national agenda.
The NAHB Senior Officers reiterated the importance of housing and homeownership to the economy and urged lawmakers to take steps to ensure an adequate supply of lumber and other building materials to help stem rising housing costs. They also stressed that a vibrant housing market is necessary in order to maintain robust job and economic growth.
Discussions were held with several influential lawmakers, including:
- Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.)
- Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.)
- Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.)
- Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)
- Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.)
- Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.)
- Provide a stable and affordable supply of credit for home buyers, home builders and rental housing;
- Prevent federal intrusion into the energy codes development process; and
- Craft a transportation and infrastructure package that takes housing affordability concerns into account.
