Project Statement

Prospect Yard, developed by Woda Cooper Companies in downtown Cleveland, was created through the adaptive reuse of the historic Stuyvesant Motor Company originally built in 1917. The new 42-unit community fulfills a high need for downtown affordable housing by providing homes for residents who earn up to 30%, 50%, 60%, or 80% of area median income. In addition to the one- and two-bedroom apartments, Prospect Yard has a community room and onsite management office, and offers indoor heated parking. The main façade is defined by three window bays, and comprises red brick, operable steel sash windows, stone sills, belt course, cornice, copings, and a carved stone cornice sign that reads "STUYVESANT.” Original first-floor storefronts that had been in-filled with brick are now open again, including the reinstatement of an historically-inspired automobile garage door recreating the original showroom exit. The industrial layout of the building lent itself well to a rebirth as housing. The original and restored features of the building give the apartments a high-end, industrial loft feel not often accessible to residents in modern affordable housing developments.
