Carl Harris, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a custom home builder from Wichita, Kan., issued the following statement following the passing of former President Jimmy Carter:

“NAHB joins the rest of the nation in mourning the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, a great statesman, humanitarian and housing advocate. President Carter was always an advocate for affordable housing. For decades in his post-presidency, Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, kept this vital issue front and center through their work with Habitat for Humanity, whose mission is to build affordable housing. With his own hands, President Carter helped to build countless homes for worthy families because he understood that homeownership is vital to the American way of life. A former Navy submariner, President Carter was a true American patriot, and the nation’s home builders salute his lifetime of service to America.”
