Builder reparing the roof after a disaster

Hurricane Sandy

See how the Home Building Industry Disaster Relief Fund was able to help rebuild.

Date: 2013
Location: Staten Island, N.Y.

When Hurricane Sandy hit, the storm’s powerful surge heavily damaged the Prestovinos’ home, which had been in the family for generations. Items were ripped from walls, appliances were destroyed, and the home was no longer habitable.

The Home Building Industry Disaster Relief Fund (HBIDRF) worked with the New York State Builders Association to help rehabilitate the one-story home — complete with new appliances, new flooring, new kitchen cabinets and a fresh paint job.
