Builder reparing the roof after a disaster

Washington Road Fires

Year: 2023

The Spokane Home Builders Association (SHBA) partnered with the Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group (SRLTC) — a new 501(c)3 non-profit — to address the needs of individuals impacted by the Gray and Oregon Road Fires in 2023. Funding from the HBIDRF, a matching donation and additional fundraising support, for a total of approximately $77,000, have been utilized to support community members in these areas who have been impacted by the fires and are having difficulties weaving their way through insurance claims and governmental/agency assistance programs.

The SRLTC’s primary roles have included:

  • Resource development to benefit individuals and the community;
  • Case work and assessments to identify family needs and facilitate appropriate provision of resources to meet those needs;
  • Volunteer coordination;
  • Spiritual and emotional care;
  • Advocacy on behalf of disaster survivors who are not receiving adequate assistance because they were ignored or missed by other care-giving organizations;
  • Donations management. Many agencies and organizations with different programs will respond to disaster in your community.

SHBA members have also been active in the reconstruction process, including two insurance replacement homes built by an SHBA member featured in the SHBA 2024 Fall Festival of Homes.
